AMMO Monthly Meeting

AMMO WG Teleconference Minutes – 6 Apr 2016

On 6 Apr, 2016 the Additive Manufacturing Maintenance Operations (AMMO) working group conducted a teleconference. A brief summary of the teleconference follows:

Standardization of Best Practices – Jim Williams (All Points Additive) gave a presentation on “America Makes & ANSI Additive Manufacturing Standardization Collaborative (AMSC). The purpose of the AMSC is to coordinate and accelerate the development of industry-wide additive manufacturing (AM) standards and specifications, consistent with stakeholder needs, and thereby facilitate the growth of the AM industry. The deliverable is a standardization roadmap for AM that identifies existing standards and specifications, as well as those in development, assesses gaps, and makes recommendations for priority areas where there is a perceived need for additional standardization, including in relation to needs already identified in the America Makes Additive Manufacturing Technology Roadmap. Jim also briefed a proposed timeline which includes publishing the roadmap in Dec 2016. He described 4 subgroups to the AMSC – Design, Materials & Process, Qualification & Certification, and Maintenance, and sent out sign-up sheets to join the subgroups. The session also included a healthy amount of interaction from AMMO WG participants on the call, who all have a vested interest in shaping the AM roadmap.
Jim proposed a new subgroup to work on “Cybersecurity & Counterfeit” issues, as both are becoming more and more of a concern to leadership.

AM Community of Practice – Greg Kilchenstein (on behalf of Bill Kobren at DAU) Bill will join us at the next AMMO WG. Greg highlighted a few capabilities below offered by DAU:
• Shortcut link to the AM CoP is https://acc.dau.mil/am
• Site contains over 150 references, links & related resources
• Interdisciplinary focus – logistics, manufacturing, engineering, acquisition law
• Includes link to an AM ACQuipedia Article at https://dap.dau.mil/acquipedia/Pages/Default.aspx and to the 26 Deloitte University AM video training vignettes we host in DAU Media Library

AM Maintenance & Sustainment Advisory Group Update – Marilyn Gaska (LMCO) provided a quick update on group activities and on external outreach and how industry and government work together.

AM Business Model Wargame Update – Marilyn Gaska (LMCO) provided an update for Mark Vitale who was at another meeting. The Additive Manufacturing (AM) Wargame is on 9-10 May at the Lockheed Martin “Lighthouse” in Suffolk, VA. The wargame will examine commercial terms and the business model processes involved in AM scenarios involving the use of AM to rapidly produce select replacement parts unavailable through traditional methods. The scenario involves a fictitious repair part needed at a CONUS maintenance depot. Registration is open and all were encouraged to participate and sign up for government or industry roles. Greg Kilchenstein emphasized to everyone to get engaged and make this an informative event. The AM Wargame slide deck used for the weekly planning meetings will be made available to the AMMO WG. It details the wargame objectives, schedule, and each of the planned moves. To register, go to: http://www.ncms.org/index.php/2016/03/ctma-additive-manufacturing-wargames-9-10-may-2016/
CTMA Annual Partners Meeting and Technology Competition – Dana Ellis (NCMS) / Greg Kilchenstein (OSD) mentioned that the CTMA Annual Partners Meeting will follow the AM Wargame from 10-12 May at the same location in Suffolk, VA. NCMS has announced a CTMA Technology Competition. The winner will receive $125K and a 12 month technology demonstration project with DoD. Six finalists will present their idea at the CTMA Annual Partners Meeting. Please see the link below for more information.
